Game Night and post Christmas summary

Here's hoping that all of you had a merry "JETS-mas" this year! I know I did! I received almost exclusively Winnipeg Jets stuff for gifts and couldn't be happier!

I received the book "Back in the Bigs" by Randy Turner of the Winnipeg Free Press and I have to say I am most impressed with the book. There were so many holes in the story of the original Winnipeg Jets that I was so happy to see filled in and clarified via this writing. I have a much more profound respect for the tough fight it took to bring home our beloved hockey team after reading this account. The photography is quite good and I think it did an excellent job of capturing the feeling of a city and a province who once again felt that immense pride that comes from having a major-league team in a major-league sport.

I am thinking that I will notice a bit of a downturn in the fuel efficiency of my vehicle now as I have two full sized Winnipeg Jets car flags flying on my car on game days and I have a new permanent antenna flag that will always be in "flight" in support of the JETS. Plus, I always carry the 3X5 foot flag on a pole in the car on gameday too...never want to get caught out and about without my flags should an impromptu WINNIPEG JETS celebration break out!

I sincerely hope that the Jets can turn around their road record in a most positive way with a W over the Avalanche tonight. We will have to be rock solid away from the MTS centre in order to have a shot at a playoff spot this season and I just know this team is capable of fantastic things when they play their very best games. Here's hoping the Avs are more than a little weary from their game in Minnesota last night and that the altitude of the Pepsi Centre doesn't affect our boys too much. I really hope they come out of the gate with afterburners glowing and don't look back. I know we can win as often on the road as we do in the Hangar back in the 'Peg.

I know pretty much every Alberta based Winnipeg Jet fan has circled March 9th, 2012 on their calendars (their brand spanking new Winnipeg Jets calendars, of course!) as the triumphant day when we will once again be able to see our much cherished team play in THIS province again! There has been much discussion about the game and getting tickets to this highly desireable matchup when the Jets visit the Flames at the Saddledome....I know that when the Ticketmaster sales opened that all the cheap tickets to the game sold out in mere moments...thank goodness for Stubhub and Ebay!

Have a great night all and most importantly of all....GO JETS GO!!!!

Latest musings on the Jets

Hello all!

We are less than a week away from Christmas and I am sure that most of you fellow Winnipeg Jets fans have visions of your new Jets' jerseys awaiting you on the big day. I have to say, it would be a major thrill for me to get one of the new jerseys (in the home dark blue please!) underneath the Christmas tree this year.

I will tell you one thing I think all of us will be thinking about during the holiday season this year is how miraculous it is that we have our beloved team back! Think back to exactly a year ago and remember how fantastic the notion of Winnipeg cheering on the Jets seemed...only the most radical (or clinically un-well) would have been adamant that the NHL would return to its rightful place along the Red River yet here we are with a great team to cheer for.

We have a really big game tomorrow night (they are all really big these days, aren't they?) as the Jets continue their homestand at the MTS Centre hosting the New York Islanders. We really need to take advantage of the awesome atmosphere of our home arena to ensure that we win as many of those games as we possibly can. We have a fairly intensive series of road games coming up in January...here is hoping that the fellows can shake off some of their woes away from Manitoba to strike a balance in the home and away win collumn.

One last thing to mention...I was away from a TV signal on Saturday night when Teemu came home for his proper farewell to his original fan base...I must say, it gave me tremendous pride to hear all of the cheering for OUR #13 everytime he did just about anything...he will always be a JET in our hearts and Winnipeg paid him such a classy tribute in everything they did while he was back home. Who knows? Maybe there is some way the team can get him traded to end his career where it began...remember that only a year ago the thought of ever seeing a Winnipeg Jets game again seemed completely remote...we all know that great big dreams can and do come true!

Merry Christmas everyone and here's hoping for a great 2012...maybe even a run for Lord Stanley's mug??

Jets at Red Wings tonight. 5PM MST Puck drop

I cannot wait for the CBC Winnipeg feed we get with our Telus Optik TV to go HD as watching the "good old hockey game" (as Stompin' Tom sings it) in standard definition is for the birds!!!

I am just glad that we get the game tonight. I have the Jets flags flying on the back deck, we are just about to get the coals going for the steak BBQ and the game will be on in this household in a mere manner of moments!

Okay Jets...we are on a pretty good roll here now so lets keep the play consistent and beat Detroit tonight!!! Three games above .500 sounds pretty darned good to me right now!

GO JETS GO!!!

Greetings from the Alberta Hangar of the Winnipeg Jets!

Hello all fellow Winnipeg Jets fans...after more than 15 long NHL seasons without our beloved hockey team, we faithful of the Winnipeg Jet tradition have been more than rewarded for our steadfastness with a fantastic new hockey team.

Here are two die hard Alberta based JETS fans showing their pride!

I have to say that in this age of instantaneous electronic communication, supporting and keeping updated on everything going on with our favorite hockey team is easier than ever! I remember in the early days of the original Jets how tough it was to stay connected with the team as a die-hard fan living way out here in Alberta. I can recall many winter nights straining to pick out the sounds of the play-by-play on CJOB AM as it crackled across the prairies. Now days, it is as simple as turning on our impressive HD televisions (with TSN Jets subscribed, of course!) or internet to stay completely up to speed with the goings on of our awesome team. Of course, I still try the old fashioned way of listening in on AM radio and I have a fair amount of success catching the TSN 1290 broadcasts all the way out here some nights!

It has impressed me so much of late to see how many of us Alberta based Winnipeg Jet fans there are out here. I have a nice little network of fellow fans with whom I can share my passion and endless devotion to all things JETS. I have to admit that there still seems to be more of the original Jets jerseys and shirts floating about out here but the new logo and design are starting to pop up here and there on the streets of Alberta.

Here's hoping that my musings on all things related to being a fanatic of the Winnipeg Jets will entertain you in some way. I just had to share my enthusiasm for this team with all of you!

Load the missiles...it's time to light the afterburners!

GO JETS GO!!!
